SASchools
About Us
Alphabyte Web Creations CC was founded in 1999 by Peter Cater with the aim of providing web design and web development services to small businesses. At that time the "internet" was relatively new but it was fast developing, and many businesses were realising the importance and advantages of doing business via the internet. Many schools were also becoming internet aware, although tended to shy away from the concept due to the costs involved.
SASchools was formed as a subsidary of Alphabyte, with the object of helping schools throughout the country to establish their internet presence. By making use of design packages we managed to keep down the costs involved, and schools could know beforehand exactly what their costs were going to be, which helped their budgeting process.
As an additional service we spent a greal of effort scouring the web for material suitable for use in schools, both by Learners, Parents and Educators, and published this as a set of Useful Links on our website.
We received many queries for information on specific schools, and this led to our compilation of the Schools Directory, which is a listing of all the schools' web addresses that we have been able to find. The list is being constantly updated and added to, so if you know of any South African schools' web addresses which are not listed, please do let us know - there is no charge for this service. This has grown to become the largest such directory in the country and on the continent.
More recently, also as a result of continued queries, we have established a database of all schools throughout the country - thank you to the Department of Education for the information. We now have the facility to search this database by area or by the name of a school.
June 2011: Over time our website has evolved through many different designs. What you are now seeing is the most significant change to date - not only has the appearance changed but the underlying technology has been updated to the latest HTML5 / CSS3 standards. What this means to you, our site visitor, is:
- Faster download times
- Better security
- The design is "future-proof" so it will be less affected by new browser updates
- We are able to take advantage of new features offered by the latest browsers
- Better compatibility over various different browsers and operating systems
The last two points - utilizing new features and better compatibility - are significant, in fact we've devoted a special page on web browsers to the topic to give you more information. (Coming soon)
We'll be using HTML5 / CSS3 technology
on all our new schools' websites as well!
